Amazon has launched its Home Services offering in the UK, meaning customers buying items such as TVs, household appliances, garden furniture and exercise equipment from the site can now opt for installation or assembly support from trusted tradespeople by adding pre-packaged services to their online shopping baskets.
Customers can also browse, purchase and schedule a selection of services even if they didn’t buy their products on Amazon.co.uk.
The Home Services feature presents a curated list of tradespeople and service providers – all background checked by Amazon – who offer upfront pricing with ratings and reviews from verified customers. Amazon’s ‘Happiness Guarantee’ means that Home Service users who are unsatisfied with the quality of the work will be issued a refund.
“We’re thrilled to be expanding Amazon Home Services to the UK as a simple way to book trusted service professionals,” said Scott Webster, general manager of Amazon Home Services Europe.
“Following our successful launch in the US, customers have told us they love the convenience and peace of mind that comes with trusted, professional installation of their products,” he added.
The new service will be available across Greater London, Birmingham and Manchester, with tradespeople including handymen, electricians, plumbers and home cinema specialists. New cities and services will be added over time.
Prior to the launch, Amazon commissioned a study which revealed that 61% of the 1,500 adults surveyed would prefer to enlist the help of a professional to carry out household tasks. In addition, one in four confessed to having suffered a DIY disaster in the past.
Amazon scored 86.6 in the most recent UK Customer Satisfaction Index (UKCSI) from The Institute of Customer Service, which is higher than both the UK all-sector average (78.1) and the retail (non-food) average of 82.0. Amazon remains the highest scoring organisation in that sector, with customers rating it highly for ease of doing business and the quality of its products.
