Argos announces plans to revolutionise TV buying

19th Jun 2018

Argos has launched an augmented reality feature in its iOS app that allows customers to view animated versions of different TV models in their own homes via their smartphone.

Customers can use the app to help decide what set would look best on their sideboard or wall by trying out 25 full-scale, 3D TV models from popular brands (such as Samsung, Sony and LG) for size.

The demand for large-screen TVs has soared at Argos in recent months, with sales of 65-inch TVs nearly doubling in the last 12 months.

“As a digitally led retailer, it’s our goal to give customers the best possible shopping experience, whether in-store or online,” said Argos digital product manager Matt Graham. “We are really excited to launch this new version of the app, which will completely change how our customers buy TVs.

“Giant TVs are becoming increasingly popular with customers looking to create the perfect cinematic experience at home for high-profile events like the World Cup,” he added. “This new AR technology will help our customers find a TV that perfectly fits their home, making the beautiful game even more beautiful.”

The new functionality is just one of the ways the retailer is embracing technology to provide convenient and memorable shopping experiences for its customers. In May, Argos launched augmented reality-enabled LEGO models through its mobile app, which allowed customers to view more than 100 full-scale, 3D versions of its best-selling LEGO toys.
