UK pub chain J D Wetherspoon have launched an app that allows customers to order and pay for food and drinks from the comfort of their seat. Staff will then deliver chosen items directly to the table.
The Order & Pay app has been trialled in several pubs around the UK but has now launched countrywide and is available to use with Apple Pay, Android Pay and PayPal.
The company says: “Since its introduction, the Wetherspoon Order & Pay app has proven a big hit with customers and is now available in all of our pubs across the UK.”
The app has a scrolling menu feature, making it easy to browse the Wetherspoon menu (including loyalty deals) and place orders. It also has a reorder function, to repeat favourite purchases.
The chain is particularly encouraging customers with mobility issues, and those visiting their pubs with young children, to take advantage of the app.
Its ability to remember favourite orders looks likely to prove popular according to The Institute of Customer Service’s The Customer of the Future report. It found that, while customers are concerned about how organisations collect and use personal information, they will also increasingly seek personalised experiences and recognise that this means being more open to sharing information about themselves with organisations.
