Department store John Lewis, renowned for its high standards of customer service, has announced a new online offering that will allow people to book a tradesperson directly through the store.
Customers will be able to make a booking with John Lewis’s Home Solutions service via the store’s website or a dedicated smartphone app, choosing a date and time that’s convenient for them.
The service offers access to a list of local trades professionals including plumbers, electricians, painters and decorators. Everyone on the list has been vetted and approved by John Lewis, which already has experience of compiling such lists for its home insurance customers.
“This means you’ll get the value, quality and standard of service you expect from us,” the store says. In addition, all the work is guaranteed for a year.
Putting its name to services offered by subcontractors is a potential risk to John Lewis, should the quality of work or customer service not be up to scratch – issues that many householders will be all too familiar with. To counter that, the store has put all subcontractors on the list through a “rigorous” recruitment process, including interviews, background checks and training in customer service.
The service has already been trialled in Milton Keynes and will be expanded to Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Taunton from 12 September.
