Popular flight comparison app Skyscanner is moving into train travel with its latest service.
Customers who have the iOS app are able to compare train ticket prices in the same way that consumers can already use it to look for cheap flights. It is currently in test mode, hence only available to Apple device users, but if successful it will be rolled out across other app platforms.
The service allows passengers to find the best deal whether it’s booked in advance and without applying any booking fees. TheTrainline.com offers a similar service already, but a booking fee applies to tickets purchased through the site.
TheTrainline.com topped the latest UK Customer Satisfaction Index (UKCSI). It scored 83.7, which is well above the sector average (73.1) and all-sector average (78.1).
Skyscanner is already popular with consumers and it offers flights, hotels and car hire. More than 60 per cent of Skyscanner’s customers use its app, which has been downloaded more than 70 million times.
The move to rail price comparison comes after Skyscanner teamed up with Trip.com and the firm has said that its new function will help UK consumers who aren’t near an airport.
