John is an entrepreneur, investor, philanthropist and the founder and CEO of AO.com, which he launched in 2000 after a £1 bet that he couldn’t transform the white goods market to the benefit of customers.
Today, AO is the UK’s most trusted electricals retailer, with more than one million Trustpilot reviews and a 4.9/5 rating – a global first.
AO employs around 3,000 people, operates one of Europe’s most advanced electricals recycling plants, runs a nationwide logistics network and is the UK’s largest online mobile phone retailer alongside its own network, AO Mobile.
John is also a passionate advocate for young people. He’s actively campaigning for a Youth Infrastructure Fund, an innovative proposal to restore the £1bn a year lost from youth services through philanthropic match-funding.
John and his wife Sally, established the Jolly Foundation, personally donating over £11m to causes supporting young people across the UK since 2015.
