In her BBC Breakfast interview on the issue of traffic warden abuse, our CEO, Jo Causon highlighted the growing prevalence of abusive behaviour towards customer-facing staff – with recent figures showing that 40% of frontline workers have experienced some level of abuse.
Jo welcomed the government’s proposal to create a standalone offence for assaults on retail workers within the current crime and policing bill, but emphasised that protections should be extended more broadly. She called for new legislation that explicitly protects all public-facing and customer-facing roles, not just those in retail, to ensure comprehensive legal safeguards for workers such as traffic wardens and others who regularly engage with the public.
