The working environment has been transformed by digitalisation, hybrid working, growing awareness about inclusivity, diversity and well-being in the workplace, changing customer behaviours, and cost of living pressures.

The research examines whether the factors that influence employee engagement and connectedness have changed, how organisations measure the links between employee engagement, customer satisfaction, productivity and financial performance, and how consumers’ experiences with employees influence attitudes and buying behaviour. The research includes recommendations to help organisations build employee engagement so that employees feel a personal connection to their organisation.

The research is a reminder that achieving the connections between employee engagement, customer satisfaction and business performance can never be taken for granted and requires constant care and attention, especially in a context of change and uncertainty.

Engaging the Workforce of Tomorrow is based on interviews with senior executives and young leaders from 20 organisations, an online survey of more than 500 employees who work in customer-facing roles, and the perspectives of over 1,000 consumers.
